Dodge City at Wichita Northwest

Old Rivalry…renewed
The Dodge City High School football program will travel to Wichita this Friday night as the “Red Demons” take on the Wichita Northwest “Grizzlies”. The series between the two schools is being renewed for the first time since 1997 when both schools were part of District 8. The Red Demons won their season opener against Wichita Southeast (40-7), while Northwest dropped their conference opener to Kapaun Mt. Carmel (24-7).

Series History
The Red Demons have faced the Grizzlies thirteen times in the storied history of both programs. The Red Demons first played the Grizzlies in 1981 with the Demons winning the inaugural contest by a score of 18-0, while Northwest won the last match up between the teams (35-28), in 1997. The overall series record has Dodge City with a (8-5) advantage. On six occasions the Demons and Grizzlies have met with a State Playoff berth on the line.  This year’s matchup is a non-district affair.

Dodge City and Wichita Northwest were both eliminated by the same team in last season’s 6A State Playoffs, Northwest losing to Derby in the first round and Dodge City falling to the “Panthers” in the Sectionals. This is the second of three consecutive contests for the Red Demons versus Wichita City League opponents.  Next Friday night, the Red Demons finish their City League run hosting Wichita North at Memorial Stadium, which will be the annual Homecoming contest.
